Construction Information

For the resale of a home in Delaware Township a Construction Records Clearance application (CRC) is required. The cost is $35.00 (payable to Delaware Township) and is the responsibility of the seller or agent for the seller. One application per address is needed at the closing of the property. Please allow ten (10) business days to process.

Certification of Smoke Detector Compliance 
This application is filed with the Division of Fire Safety at the state of New Jersey. The contact phone number is (609) 633-6132. This is NOT filed with the township.

Prior Approvals:

Construction Referral Application
Any property with a well and/or septic that requires Zoning, also requires a Construction Referral approval from the Hunterdon County Health Department: (908) 788-1351

Hunterdon County Soil Approval
Any new single-family dwelling, or any addition or structure disturbing more than 5,000 square feet requires approval from Hunterdon County Soil: (908) 788-9466

D&R Canal
Construction projects in Zone A (within 1,000 feet of the D&R Canal) and in Zone B (depending on the nature and size of the project) require approval from the D&R Canal Commission (609) 397-2000. CLICK HERE for a map which provides the location of Zone A (blue) and Zone B (green)

Driveway Permit
A new driveway requires a permit from the Delaware Township Road Department for entrance from township roads: (609) 397-3530. For entrance from county roads, the Hunterdon County Road Department: (908) 788-1178

Zoning Permit Application:
Any land use including sheds, fences, patios, pools, decks, additions, single family dwellings etc. require a Zoning Permit application. An application fee of $30 (payable to Delaware Township) must accompany the application along with a survey/plot plan.

All work for desired inspection(s) must be completed prior to scheduling.

Inspection requests can be scheduled through the SDL Portal:

https://www.sdlportal.com/). This is the preferred method for scheduling inspections. Setting up an account also provides other information regarding your permit.
